Spice-o-meter: My Spice Rating System

Hello, fellow bookworms! I decided that since I recently posted a review of The Spanish Love Deception (which I rated a 2 of 5 for spice), I should probably make a post about my "spice" ratings, which I have now named my "Spice-o-meter". I want to make it clear that the Spice-o-meter does NOT effect the overall rating of the book! I am okay with no spice and I'm okay with spice, I just know that some people have other preferences for the books they read. Spice-free: Nothing beyond some kisses, hugging, etc. If one of my reviews doesn't have a "spice-o-meter" listed in it, it's safe to assume that it is spice-free. 1 of 5: May include hands, more kissing, "fade to black" scenes. No in-detail spice. Any books that have discussion of spice will be included in this category, even if no spice actually happens. I will write a disclaimer in my review if this is the case, because I know some people prefer books with actual spice. 2 of 5

The Spanish Love Deception

Title: The Spanish Love Deception Author: Elena Armas Genre: Romance Published in: 2021 Age suggestion: 18+ Spice-o-meter: 2 of 5 My rating: 3 of 5 My thoughts: I rated this book 3 out of 5 stars. I was going to do 2 out of 5 initially, however I did enjoy the last portion of it. I forced myself to read the last 60% of this book in one day because I had been trying to read it for almost a month and was struggling to find the urge to read. I didn't really find it interesting until the end. The main character, Lina, had a ridiculous long-lasting grudge against a coworker of hers, Aaron, who was the love interest. I understood it after it got explained in more detail, however it kept the plot from moving for longer than it should've. I know this book is super popular, so this is probably a very unpopular opinion, but this book was far longer than it should've been. In one word, this book was overhyped. It is definitely something for people who enjoy slow burn romance because i

Weekend Book Haul: Barnes & Noble and the Kindle Store

So, as I'm sure many of you other bookworms know, Barnes & Noble is a dangerous place for the wallet. This weekend, I once again visited my local Barnes & Noble - located in Harker Heights, Texas - and I picked up a few new books! My boyfriend and I decided to have a date night visiting his favorite comic book shop and my favorite bookstore. He got to see me become the absolute crazy person that I become whenever I walk into a bookstore, so I'm sure that was entertaining for him. I have recently been trying to get into reading fantasy books. I haven't really found many that got me totally invested. The most recent fantasy book I've read was King of Battle and Blood , but that was all the way back in March and I only thought it was a 3 out of 5 personally. It wasn't bad necessarily, it just took me a while to get invested in. Typically the books that I rate 4 out of 5 or a 5 star read have me hooked immediately. I had other thoughts on it of course, but this
