My Favorite Places to Buy Books

Hello everyone!

Today I got inspired. Recently, I went book shopping again (I made a New Year's goal to stop buying books and just read the massive pile of books I already have... I have failed) and it got me thinking - why don't I write a list of all of my favorite places to buy books?

One thing that I really love about books is that they are basically available to buy everywhere you go, however I have a few spots that I specifically love to shop at for books. I'm going to break it up into two categories for the purpose of this post - where I buy new books and where I buy used books.

New Books

For new books, I usually will shop at the bigger stores. I buy most of my new copies at Barnes & Noble, however I also buy many of them at Walmart and Target. Depending on the price, I will sometimes purchase straight from author websites for signed copies of their new books (this is usually with new up-and-coming authors I have discovered on TikTok, such as The Captain of Nemain's Revenge by McKenzie Hatton, which is still on my TBR).

I used to love a bookstore chain called Bookworld, but it went out of business when I was in high school. I still think about that store a lot. It was like Barnes & Noble, but a much smaller chain only available in the midwest.

 Used Books

For used books, I mostly shop at local thrift stores, but some of the online sources I'll use are:

I would definitely recommend hitting up your local Goodwill stores or other thrift stores in your area to buy books. My favorite thrift store in my area is called Texas Thrift and all of their books are under $2! I have found so many treasures there. I would also recommend looking in the little free libraries in public parks or sometimes right in your neighborhood! There are often people that build them in their front yards. Remember, if you take a book, try to leave a book too.

Bonus: eBooks!

For eBooks, I have a 4th generation Kindle that I still read so many books on. Not only do I have a physical Kindle, but I also have the Kindle app on my phone and iPad so I can read literally anytime, anywhere.
I also have the Nook app on my phone, however I have found that I prefer the Kindle app.

Many new authors also write books, not just fanfictions, on websites like Wattpad and Quotev. Reading the work of an aspiring author might just give them the push they need to keep going and keep following their dream.

I hope this post helped you find some new (or just new to you) books. Let me know if you have other suggestions that I should check out.

Happy reading!

Spice-o-meter: My Spice Rating System

Hello, fellow bookworms! I decided that since I recently posted a review of The Spanish Love Deception (which I rated a 2 of 5 for spice), I should probably make a post about my "spice" ratings, which I have now named my "Spice-o-meter". I want to make it clear that the Spice-o-meter does NOT effect the overall rating of the book! I am okay with no spice and I'm okay with spice, I just know that some people have other preferences for the books they read. Spice-free: Nothing beyond some kisses, hugging, etc. If one of my reviews doesn't have a "spice-o-meter" listed in it, it's safe to assume that it is spice-free. 1 of 5: May include hands, more kissing, "fade to black" scenes. No in-detail spice. Any books that have discussion of spice will be included in this category, even if no spice actually happens. I will write a disclaimer in my review if this is the case, because I know some people prefer books with actual spice. 2 of 5

Powerless

Powerless by Lauren Roberts Title: Powerless Author: Lauren Roberts Genre: Fantasy Published in: 2023 Age suggestion: Young adult and up Spice-o-meter: No spice My rating: 4 out of 5 My thoughts: This book I thought was pretty good. The first half of it, I got major Hunger Games vibes from it and I was a bit nervous about how the story was going to turn out, but it got so good! Don't get me wrong, I like The Hunger Games , I just was nervous that it was going to be too similar of a storyline. There were definitely parts of it that were inspired by them, but the story took a very different turn. I got addicted to this book. It took me a while to get into (I've been reading it off and on again for a month) but I finished over half of it in a couple of days. The end had a lot of action and ended on a cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next books to come out. I am definitely going to be continuing this series as it comes out. In this book, it is split perspective between a g

What About Me

What About Me by Tiara Vazquez This post will contain spoilers! Title: What About Me Author: Tiara Vazquez Genre: Paranormal Romance Published in: 2022 Age suggestion: 18+ Spice-o-meter: 2 out of 5 My rating: 5 out of 5 My thoughts: I really loved this book! It was another Kindle read that I found because I'm in a Facebook reading group with the author and she was promoting her book. I downloaded it on Kindle Unlimited and I absolutely loved it. It isn't my normal read because I normally don't read paranormal stuff, but I wanted to read something from another undiscovered, new author. This one has probably been my favorite undiscovered book I've read. This book had a big plot twist at the end that I honestly didn't expect, and a beautiful ending in my opinion. This book was about a girl named Ivy who believed that a new woman at her fiancĂ©'s company (where she also worked) was trying to steal him from her. She had very bad anxiety and a past with infidelity,
